I grew up in Sunset Heights, which is one of the oldest neighborhoods in El Paso. I attended Vilas elementary and El Paso High, both schools rank as the oldest in El Paso. My education also includes a Bachelors degree from Oregon State University in Political Theory, a Masters degree from the University of San Diego in International Relations and a Ph.D. from New Mexico State University in Educational Administration.
Currently, I work at El Paso Community College as Director of Upward Bound. This program works with low-income, first-generation high school students to try and help them eventually enroll in college. Additionally, I teach Government at El Paso Community College and in the graduate school at New Mexico State University.
I have also worked for the United States Department of Labor, United States Treasury Department and worked for Tony Lama Boot Company where we developed the George Strait line.
My civic involvement includes organizations such as LULAC, where we help raise funds to award scholarships to the future leaders of our community. Additionally, I'm active in my neighborhood association where I secured a grant of $100,000 from the city Neighborhood Improvement program. Finally, I belong to many professional organizations related to my work as an educator and administrator.
Our campaign is dedicated to improving El Paso by creating an environment of hope and unity. I promise to work diligently to improve conditions in El Paso and promote positive change. We will work together, with all stakeholders, to find solutions to the problems that face our community. Our campaign will operate in a respectful manner and once in office we will fight for fairness for all. I will not waiver in the conviction to create a better community for all citizens.
